Lady Luck

“Superstition is a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge, in or of the ominous significance of a particular thing, circumstance, occurrence, proceeding or the like.” That is dictionary.com’s definition at any rate.

I seem to be becoming superstitious in my later years. Or I should say I am becoming superstitious THIS year. Time to get this year DONE.

People are saying things like “2016 has not been a good year for you; has it?” and “Won’t you be happy when this year is over?” It appears a lot of people think 2016 was out to get me! And I am starting to think they are right.

Having my mother-in-law in intensive care the same week my ‘good’ eye went out was, shall we say, a bit disconcerting. Then my husband had two medical crises of his own leaving me to fend for myself for a few weeks.

I felt like I was tilting at windmills for quite a while before services deliveries started. Why service systems have got to be so HARD to navigate is just incomprehensible to me. Maybe it has something to do with the six in 2016. Six is my unlucky number.

The list of minor – and some major – disasters goes on, but I have decided it has to stop in 2017. Why? Because 17 is one of my lucky numbers!

My luck will be much better in 2017. Stuart Vyse said it will; well, sort of. Believing in luck can improve confidence and even skill. Having a rabbit’s foot or four-leaf clover in your pocket can make you feel as if you have some real control over the situation.  That is power!

And then there is the security of it all. Next year I won’t be in the battle alone. That 17 and all its power will have my back!

So here I am at 7:17 in the evening (Yippee! Lucky time!) counting down until this crazy year is done and I can get some REAL luck, some good mojo on the go. Wish me some luck, will you all, please?
